Ahoy Everyone, I live on the east coast of central Florida Fort Pierce, Fl. now. I been sailing the ICW for some time now. Saturday the sea is to be 1' to 2', I want to go out the inlet. I was wondering what the best time to do this would be? Outgoing, Slack, High Tide? My sweetheart is afraid to go out into the Atlanic. Any advice would help Joe

One of the best inlets on the east coast that we found. The problem with one to two feet seas is that probably means there is no wind. With your smallish motor you should plan to use the tides. Depth is not a problem there but current can be. If you time it close to slack and go out with the ebb(outgoing) then after a couple of hours you can return with the flood. Even though you will probably be motoring it would be a good first time for your sweetie.

Joe, With the winds as calm as they have been from the west this week and I think into next week, you should be good to go at any tide. It runs pretty fast through there so I would try to schedule my exit with the outgoing tide and come back in with the incoming. The most important thing is DO NOT attempt a U-turn in any inlet. I had the crap scared out of me once up at Ponce in Daytona. Got into the channel before you can see what is going on out in the outer end of the channel and had six foot standing waves. I had a death grip on the wheel going straight out and watched my speed over ground drop to 2 knots. Continuing out once your commited is the only choice and it will probably get a lot better once you get to the ocean. Ft Pierce is probably not that bad. I did the shakedown cruise Saturday out of Riverside Marina with my new to me 1977 H30 and it was a blast. Will be moving to Club Med in Stuart next week. Hope to meet up with you.

Jimmy
