It's fairly cool here today, mid to high 50's. We were putting barrier coat on the Pearson's rudder and I expected 3-4 hours of time between coats. I put on the first coat and in under 30 minutes it's dry to the touch. No "thumb print" test needed here.

Does that first coat over bare fiberglass dry that quickly? I'm going to move ahead with the second coat and see how it does.

When I did mine, I seem to remember the first coat being very fast to pass the thumb test. I kept applying two coats per day until I had the five coats

I've done the second coat and its about dry also.

Maybe I'm rolling it too thin or something? It looks really good.

Perhaps a little faster than what the literature saved from the paper label says. You may have very low humidity where you are as I seem to remember that there was some sort of VOC in the liquid.

Just be glad it's not taking forever to dry/set as that WOULD be something to worry about. Do they still require the bottom paint to go on while the final coat of epoxy is soft ?

We did our first bottom paint tell tale coat in black and all further coats in blue.

They do want the final coat to be tacky before I put on the VC17m. I'm worried I will not be able to do it fast enough. Maybe a real heavy final coat will take longer to dry.

When I applied multiple coats this past spring, The box said 3 hurs Min, and 2 Weeks Max. That's what I followed, and no problems. Of course I did mine in late May/early Jun in new England (RI).
