Has anyone tried any of the Interphase instruments (specifically PROBE) and do you feel they're worth the expense??? Any problems with them, etc.... Thanks...

fishfinder

I had an interphase fishfinder on my last boat. costly but worth it. when i blew out the crt tube after about 7 years of hard use, they gave me a whole new unit for something like $80, their standard fix-it fee for equipment outside the warranty period. Very nice.

Forward looking system

You might want to investigate a product that is doing similar to the Probe. Echopilot Forward Looking System (FLS) has three models. I do have one unit and it does the job especially when you sail on a reservoir lake. No need to tell you that since I have this device I feel much more comfortable. They claim that it can look as far as 450 feet ahead (or 600 for the bigger model). In my case, I observed 300' with about 40' depth. In 10' of water, you can see between 60' to 100' depending of the bottom condition. The good thing of the Echopilot is that you can remove the transducer from the inside as oppose to the Probe where it is installed from outside of the boat. This is particularly practical when you lift the boat. I own a H280 and the slings are in conflict with the transducer. It was one of the major reason why I selected the Echopilot model.
