I would like to know how how some of you get the internet onboard and who provides the best service. I live in Rhode Island and will be sailing around New England waters.

I sailed from western Lake Erie to Tampa, FL, with a Verizon card. We were never farther offshore than four or five miles. I always had cellphone and Internet connectivity with Verizon. The other way is simply to get added wi-fi range with an antenna and look for free spots which abound. I have no experience with what that range actually is.

I bought the ALFA AWUS036NH long range USB adapter, with the longer antenna.
