JJ, We have a kit that we purchased. It basically is a cable that connects the computer serial port to the cell phone. We have Verizon service in PA/NJ/DE/MD and it does not cost anyting but air time. I configured the modem in the laptop to call the proper number and enter the password and we are on. After we are logged on, we run Internet Explorer. I will warn you it is slow especially with alot of graphics. It is reasonable with text sites like google. I think it does depend on what phone and phone servie that you have. Contact your provider and ask them. good luck, Mike D

Connect speed is 230.4 kbps on laptop. Uses airtime only. With weekend minutes after 9:00 PM til 7:00 am Monday, very economical.

Treo
JJ: One option for email/internet is the Treo PDA. They sell for $200-500 depending on the deal that the wireless companies are offering on any given day. You can check out the Palm site for some special deals too. They also make cards that plug into a slot on a PC too.

Treo 600
As was suggested below, I use my Treo 600 PDA. Works great, I can connect at about the equivilant of 56k. Not the same speed as at home, but useable.

Have you checked...
if your marina provides a wireless service? A lot of them are providing it now. Just need a wireless card. Of course, this only works while in port.

motorolla phone, dell laptop, and alltel service
I just went to alltell and showed them which phone I had and they gave me the correct software, I dial up just like normal with aol under sign on options I have a spot that says home1 and thats what I use, whenever I plug my cell phone in it automatically senses it and switches over to home1....Tim Welsh H34 AKA Cabo Wabo

be sure verizon has service where you intend to be. they openly sell and support a "mobile internet" kit, about $50.00, to connect certain of their phones, including their cheapest, to a notebook and dial-up your own isp. slow but solid connection....i get about 14.4, but usable and very economical. minuits only and free nights, weekends, etc. some cell providers are very ugly about selling, supporting or even admitting this can be done. the big "A", (double entendre intended), is one in particular in this catagory!

Sprint phones are set up for internet access using your own isp. My present phone is slow - 14,000 bps, but the new phones are 3 or 4 times faster. Costs me an extra $5 per month and works anywhere in the country where there is sprint service, which in my case is PA or FL.

worked this all out. went to verizon and bought a mobile office kit (basically a data cable which connects my cell phone to my laptop). i can dial into verizons internal National Access service. No need for an ISP. National Access is supposedly faster than normal dial up ISP and if you already have verizon service all you pay is ordinary airtime. Because i use a mac i had to buy some additional software called Quick Link Mobile (found it on the web-- verizon does not support mac).
