HELP -- Need some advice on two projects on Phoenix, a 1992 H30T. 1 - I want to install a new steaming light that incorporates a deck light as well. My problem is, how to get the wire for the additional circuit to power the additional light from the current steaming light location down through the mast to the base and out to the terminal strip. Is there an internal conduit I have to go through or can I just "fish" the wire down and out? Must I unstep the mast to do the job right? (Hope not!) 2 - I have installed a marine AM/FM stereo/CD player in the salon and bought an antenna splitter from BoatUS so I could grab the FM signal off the VHF antenna on the mast. All this is great, except that the reception is very weak when the cable is fully inserted and the connector is screwed down to secure the cable. When the connector is partially inserted into the socket, the FM reception is great, but when it is fully inserted, the signal goes south fast. Any ideas?

FM connector

The syptoms that you are describe sounds like your connector is shorting the center conductor to the shielding of the coax cable. I would rebuild the connector if you can or replace it.

Steaming/deck light.

You most likely have a 2-wire cable going to your steaming light. Unless you want the two to always be on at the same time you will have to: 1) run another 2-wire cable, or 2) replace the 2-wire with a 3-wire. Either way I think you have to unstep the mast. You will be running the new wire from the switch panel to a deck connector and then new wire in the mast with the connector at the step. Or is your mast keel-stepped? I thought some H30s were. In that event the wire runs from/to a strip in the bilge I suppose.

internal conduit

I have a 89 30 and there is an internal conduit runnig the length of the mast. It stops at the bottom to connect to a 4 prong trailer plug which then goes into the boat inside the mast step. You will have to step the mast to run additional wires. You can try to remove the pullys at the bottom of the mast to gain access but I do not think that will give you enough room to pull the connection out.
