We are recent owners of a B393. I was wondering how critical the intermediate forestay is to the rigging. I was told that it is mostly required to take the load when the main is reefed? Having it there makes stowing the dinghy on deck a bit of a nuisance and i was wondering if in normal? conditions it could bedisconnected? I note that on the new 40ft cyclades with very similar rigging they dont bother with one Thanks Andy and Barb on 'Amalie'

Don't remove it

I have one on my B361 as well, as do most recent Bennys. Don't remove it, from what I understand it does a couple of things. For one it keeps the mast from pumping which left unchecked could lead to metal fatigue and consequent mast failure. The second, it keeps the mast from inverting and collapsing. As for the cyclades not having it, it's most likely a new or different design that doesn't require one.
