Does anyone know what interlux special thinner 216 really is. I want to bottom paint my boat and it is recommended to use this thinner to wipe down after sanding. I'm ready to wipe down, but I don't have this thinner. Is it the same as something else I could by at the hardware store? Thanks in advance. Bob Hawkins Cat 320 #823

It's a xpecial blend of various solvents...

those of which I do not know, but you might check the label. I would assume that plain old Acetone would probably work (although it may dry too fast, hence a solvent blend to slow down the dry just enough to cut in)...

Carefull

I knew a guy that wiped down with acetone before topside painting - and the paint didn't stick.

216 is ...

25% Ethyl Benzene 75% Xylenes Data from the product saftey sheet on the Interlux website. Also, It's vapors are heavier than air so be careful if using it inside your boat.

Xylene also called Xylol

. Xylene or Xylol is basicly the same as ST 216. I use it and get the same results. Special thinner is over priced. Once I found out what it was I went with the Xylene. .
