Three years ago I painted the topsides with Interlux Toplac. My plan was to paint the topsides one year and then paint the deck the following year. Two years later the deck is still as it was. Since then I have come to realize that the original gelcoat on the deck is in good shape. Now I have a white hull and a light beige deck. It drives me nuts. I have decided that I am going to repaint the topsides to match the deck, but I cant find a off the shelf color to match. Can you have the single part paints tinted to your desired shade? I would like to stay with Interlux or Pettit, suggestions will be considered. I know I could call the companies and ask, but Im just being lazy. Thanks in advance. Rob Hessenius

Call Awlgrip .....

ask them to send you a handful of color chips. They have many that are at slight different shades and tints close to the color you want.

I asked WM

the same question a couple years ago for paint for our Ski boat. He told me I could try to get a match by mixing colors myself. (Oh forgot this part) He told me the companies didn't custom mix, I took it at face value and didnt call any companies. Might be worth the effort if you have a chip you could send them, if they will do it.

Tinting....

Generally, the manufacturer will not tint for you at the factory for such a small amount...BUT....the local retail outlets usually do. Any paint can be tinted whether one or 2 or 3 component. Marine paint is blended to have special qualities for the marine environment which has nothing to do with coloring. Urethanes are urethanes, epoxies are eposies, etc. There is no magic bullet that separates them from their base by very much. Generally speaking...most urethanes will take the same tint. Most epoxies will take the same tint. This is chemistry not magic. IMHO Tony B
