My 1984 Cal 24 spent a few years in dry dock in an all season climate. It was completely covered, however, when I uncovered it this year I was appalled that most of the interior port side wood had rotted to one degree or another. The shelving in the main cabin, above the porta potty and the enclosure for the anchor locker in the forward cabin will all need to be replaced. Also, the bulkhead will need significant repair or replacement where the hardware mounts to the wood through the deck. Where can I find a reference of the interior specifications in order do this work over the winter months? Fortunately, I was able to extend the chain plate into the bulkhead for safe sailing this summer. Thanks for your help.

I "wood" help if I could

'84 and '85 Cal 24's are the same design. I have an '85 and I replaced some interior wood last season. Since I replaced all standing and running rigging, I gathered as much information as I could from other Cal 24 owners and online. I never found any interior wood specifications. Your best bet is to use the old wood as a pattern.

1984 Cal 24 Specs

Jack, I assume you've seen this site: http://pages.sssnet.com/go2erie/cal24.htm Lower on the page it has the specs and drawings of a 1984 Cal 24 (inboard diesel model). I looked it up because I sailed our club's Cal 24 on both Saturday and Sunday last weekend. Nice, stable boat. We had enough wind to heel it around 15-20 degrees, but it seemed to cut through chop and wakes like a larger boat. Maybe the 1175 lb. lead keel had something to do with it... I like the cockpit, but there's not much headroom down below (compared to something like a Catalina 25). This link also has basic specs: http://pages.sssnet.com/go2erie/cal24.htm

Cal 24 wood

www.odaysailboats.com The above website if for Rudy Nickerson @ D&R Marine in MA. Rudy was the purchasing manager @ O'Day/Cal in the 80's and has a business selling old O'Day and CAL parts. You might try contacting him. I worked with him as Director of Marketing/Product Development until we went under. I might have a 24 Owner's Manual or brochure in the basement. Cal24 and others

Bob, I think these mid 80's (O'Day) built Cal's are the best! What a shame they went under. I had a new 1987 Cal22 and loved it. Now I have a Cal33 and think the world of it. I wouldn't trade it for anything in that size. My wife feels the same way. I have a Cal24 brochure I can E-mail anyone that wants it. I'm at chuckq1@prodigy.net
