Beneteau First 28.5 Milwaukee
The adhesive foam backing for the interior vinyl of my 1988 Beneteau 28.5 basically disintegrated. I have cleaned the the old foam off the hull and am looking for suggestions to re install the panels. What kind of backing and adhesive seems to work the best. Also, any helpful hints.

Thanks.

Beneteau 32s5 Cork, Ireland
We recently purchased a 32s5 with the same issue. What a mess and bits of old foam (dust) in the bilge. As there was some mould on the vinyl, I removed it and chucked it out. The headliner on this boat is a plastic, so only the hull sides have the vinyl problem. I have painted where the vinyl was and very happy with the results. It looks ‘boatish’, (I think vinyl is for a ‘gin palace’ and ours is a sailboat). Also, I will not have to worry about mould again. I used oil based undercoat and oil based white gloss paint. Removing the old glue is not fun as Jackdaw has pointed out.

Appears to be a common problem with all Beneteaus built in the 90's also. Our 1996 Oceanis 351 was a mess when we bought it in 2010. The HullBlanket type material worked great and we've been pleased since we installed the material. Check eBay for several suppliers of the material. The old vinyl can be used for a pattern to cut the HullBlanket. Definitely, one of the best upgrades we have done.

I'm just going thru the process on my 40.7 First.
Getting the old foam off is a nightmare but with patience it comes up OK.
I have replaced it with a blanket type material. Before glueing on I painted the inside of the hull with black paint to stop the sun light shining thru the new material.
