I have been struggling, trying to design, the perfect instrument covers in the interior salon of our Hunter 30. Currently, the backs of the knotmeter, depth guage and the cockpit speakers are covered with those huge plastic covers that look terrible. I toyed with the idea of something in teak (with a door to access the backs of the instruments), as well as a single plastic (project box-style) cover on each side painted to match the interior cabin. Can anyone provide experience and success in this exercise?

Built two cover for inside

I had the same problem on my 79 Hunter 30'. I measured the width, highth, and length that I needed. I then went to Home Depot and purchased 12" 1" nominal board used for shelving (no knots). For the width, I had to clamp and glue. I then built a box in the correct size. I then placed on table saw (I don't think you can cut this by hand with circular saw) and cut the highth in two (about 1/3 from edge). I then cut in a set of small brass hinges on one end and hook and eye on the other. I then stained with teak and rubbed in tung oil to finish. I bolted the smaller section to the cabin with four stainless screws with the hinges down. I found that I needed a luggage type brass hasp as the hook and eye at the top would not hold it closed during sailing. Total cost was under $30.00 Good luck
