I have started removing what I need to in order to swap out my bulkheads in my O' Day 25. I removed the hanging locker behind the head and the platform that the porta-potti sits on. The vinyl(?) covering on the hull there was falling down due to the water infiltration from around the chain-plates. Hence the bulkhead swap... anyway, what is that material? I cut it with a knife and pulled out that section. Can I get vinyl wallpaper and replace it or is there something specific I should be using there? Or, should I just clean it up, sand it, and paint it?

TRY NOT TO CUT IT.

You can use the old pieces as patterns... get the material here.

It was on the hull with bare fiberglass underneath. I had to cut the piece out as the other bulkhead was holding it in place. Not on the "ceiling" but the "wall" of the hull. Thanks for the link JD, I will check there on getting some new stuff.

EDIT: Checking out the link is showing me what they put on the Head side of the bulkhead as well. Nauga Soft Vinyl....... the color leaves a lot to be desired but, that is kind of the beauty of this project. I can make it whatever I want now.

No problem...

Along those lines, here is a handy tip. On an O'day (or any other boat whose manufacturer is out of business (S2, Pearson, Cal, C&C etc), as you work on them make a list of parts that are manufacture specific. This will include things like trim, wall covering, cushions, lifting keel parts, rudder housings etc. These will be the hardest parts to replace if they are lost or broken. Treat them well, buy spares if you find them, save the parts if they break. All the other bits are standard rigging bits or fiberglass.

Great idea JD. I probably wouldn't have thought of that until I needed something that I just up and tossed in the bin during restoration..... Thanks.

I didn't have any vinyl on mine just the hull liner material all the way through. My biggest hurdle when I replaced my hull liner was removing the sink and galley counter.

I had the same thing to do to my 25' 1975 O day. The boat was abandoned for 6 years and in bad shape. I had to remove the mast and then cut out the bad bulkheads do to chainplates leaking. I put the sail up on her for the first time in over 8 years that I know of. The hull liner was in bad shape. I removed all if it and will be replacing it over the winter. Found new hull liner at a canvas shop. Not that bad for the pocket.

I tore my old stuff out a few years ago and replaced it with some indoor-outdoor mildew resistant carpet from home depot, it's a grey blue and super easy to cut. It's held up great and looks great too.
