I have a damaged interior cushion on a'86 Hunter 23. The fabric is rotten and torn. It's that blue corduroy/velor material. I've been to a few upholstery shops and they can't even come close to matching the original material. Does anyone have any ideas?

Automotive Upolstery Shop

Jim: We had a 1986 VW that had a worn bolster. I went to OKAY Upolstery (behind Big O Tire) in Carson City and they got a near exact match. I would think that almost any shop would be just as good. You may want to contact Hunter and see if they know how the mfg of the orginal fabric was. This would at least give you a starting point. Good chance that the fabric is no longer in production and you are just SOL. Your other option is to do something that is sort of contrasting like a stripe or checked material. You may need to do another cushion or two to make the boat look balanced too.

Faced the Same Problem

I just replaced the torn and faded main cabin and aft cushions on my '86 H23. Like you, I could not match the original blue corduroy/velour material. I went to an automotive upholstery shop that did a lot of marine work. Selected a totally new fabric and redid 6 cushions for $250. I'll do the forward cushions next year. The main cabin is great now, probably the best money I've spent on the boat lately.
