I am considering the purchase of an 80 O'day 22. The boat appears to be in generally good condition except for a horizontal crack in the interior fiberglass on the bulkhead just below the companionway door and just above the penetration for the centerboard line. I would appreciate any information that could be offered regarding the possible cause and suggested methods of repair. The owner reportedly sailed with it this way withouthout difficulty. Thanks for any assistance.

Same thing too.

I have a 1979 O'Day 22 with a crack in the same location. I cannot figure out how it got there, other than perhaps a heavy object landed on the companionway step, and flexed it beyond recovery. The crack hasn't moved or caused me any concern other than it not looking so nice. I have had my 22 for 4 - plus years now and (so far) no problems, crank and all. Is the seller giving you any information about the matter? My guess is that kids romping around the boat may've done it. I know my 8 year old cannot go below without a leap from the cockpit to the cabin deck with a resounding thud that trembles the boat and shatters my nerves. Kids will be kids. Hope all goes well and you find yourself in a 22 someday - they're great little boats. Regards, Stu Timm "Karakahl" 1979 OD 22 CB Centerport, NY
