Interior Ceiling Lighting

I am considering replacing the interior ceiling lighting in my Oceanis 390. Those little original halogen lights seem to suck up huge amounts of power. I am seeking some power-saving alternatives without sacrificing lighting intensity. Any ideas guys?

I looked into going to LEDs, but the cost stopped me and I didn't use the lights all that much, anyway. An oil lamp is better for cabin light. For reading in the bunk, I used a small 25watt desk lamp through an inverter, but maybe LEDs are cheaper now.
