I just purchased a sailboat which needs some work. So I figure the first thing I need to do is get the model and year. The previous owner *thinks* the boat is a 1980 Oday 22. But none of the photos, layouts or specs match what I have seen yet. My measured LOA was 24'10" with a 8' beam. So I am trying to locate the Hull Number, it is either filled in on the transom or is located somewhere else. I have heard rumors that hull numbers usually are located in two locations possibly inside the boat? Well, any help would be great! Chris Faulhaber

can't tell with the tarp

It's definately not an O'day 22. LOA for the 22 is just over 21' It might be an O'Day Tempest.

Looks like a MacGregor 22

Hi Chris: Looks to me that you have a MacGregor 22 there, and older one at that. Does the cabin top have a forward-looking, long narrow fixed viewport? If so, you probably do not have a O'Day. The MacGregor 22 had such a window in the older models. As far as hull ID numbers, if the boat has a hull number ID, it's usually pressed into the gelcoat near the transom of the boat, around the gunwhale. If the hull of your new boat has been painted over previously, the numbers may have been hidden under the coats of paint. Check the MacGregor's owners wedsite pages for further data to see if you indeed do have one. I see by your snow-clad photo you are none-to-close to getting the hull wet. Same here! Good luck and here's to many happy days aboard your new vessel. Regards, Stu Timm "Karakahl" 1979 O'Day 22 CB Centerport, Long Island

Looks like a .......

I can't tell for sure, but it looks like a MacGregor or an old Winward Yacht. The hull shape definately looks like a Winward. I have never seen an O'day that has that profile. My two cents

Hmmmmm...looks like a Venture.

It looks like an older Venture 22 (McGregor) to me. Is the cabin roof a pop-top that is held up with 2 stainless bars flattened at each end? If it is a Venture, the hull number may be found on the port side of the upper transom just below where the transom attached to the deck. Good luck. It will be interesting to find out what you've got! Regards, Weezer

HULL NUMBER

THERE SHOULD BE A HULL NUMBER (HIN) PLACED ON THE INSIDE OF THE STARBOARD SIDE. LOOK INTO ANY ACCESS HOLES, USUALLY IN THE AFT SECTION OF THE BOAT.

No Hull ID, But.....

Well forget the hull ID take a look at a sail I found stuffed in a cubby, the main sail!!! It seems that the boat is a MacGregor Venture 24 and may have been build in 1971 or at least the sail is. I found a photo of a 1971 V24 sail #859; http://www.sailboatspecs.com/sailboatspecs/boatimages/M/Macgregor24-Venture-1971.jpg Well I got a 9 year older boat but it's 2' bigger... I really appreciate all the help from everyone. I will have to say one of the best boats I've sail was a 34' Oday out of Red Hook, St Thomas for a couple of weeks! Chris Faulhaber
