I forgot where I heard it, but I heard that the federal government just put some money aside for a grant. This grant was to help upgrade public docks and also make dingy docks that are public in some areas. Has anyone else heard this? If so, how long before we benifit from this? Personally, I would love to see more dingy docks in the Chesepeake Bay region. Most of the private dingy docks still cost $10 a day and that is a rip-off. It stinks when you go to an area and ancor up, only to be stuck in the water with no access to land other than private places. It would be nice if more places were sailor friendly like Annapolis.

Try Googling it

Intresting...trying googling the toppic and see if anything went out. I know a port near my home port (Greenport - LI, NY) just put in a public transient facility (60 docks w/ dingy access too). Funded by the gov. according to the local mayor (I am not sure to what % though). It is an amazing place to visit via boat becasue from the docks you can access dozens of restaurants by foot and even hop a ferry to Shelter Island. I would like to see more docks myself! Rob

Greenport

I haven't been to Greenport for a little while, in part because I could not find any place to dock. Is there readily available dinghy space and anchorage now? I will have to try it again next season.

Sounds like

we may have a sailor in congress :) But I wouldn't be surprised if the rumor was to replace the damaged docks in the northern Gulf Coast shore.

I think it was related to naval base closing

I recall seeing an article recently that mentioned with the closing of some Naval bases, space would open up for more docks/marinas. Harry

I think they already have

Grants where written here a couple of years ago and some upgrades have already been made. it may be too late to cash in on in in your area, but the grants have pretty restrictive rules . not sure about it all but thats what we hear.

Annapolis...

has/is getting a grant to redo the docks in Ego Alley - I thought this year. And, they're upgrading a lot of the dingy docks at the various street ends throughout town. Also, adding free wifi for the harbor area. Maybe that's what you hear about.

$3,000 deduction for hybrid vehicle!

If the IRS gives (to you and takes from others) a $3,000 deduction for buying a hybrid (gas /electric or diesel/electric) car in 2005, don't you think people who buy hybrid boats (wind/gas or wind/diesel) that conserve far more energy than a hybrid car should get an even bigger deduction? But then, who says our tax system has to make sense? Sorry, just got my W-2s. Happy returns *_/), MArk
