This guy was reported missing a few weeks ago after he didn't make it into Port St. Joe, FLon a solo trip from Gulf Shores, AL.
A few days later they found his boat anchored at Fort McRee near Pensacola.
A few days after that they found a body buried in the sand at the naval air station.
And about that same time they found a guy using his ID in Louisiana.

Be careful out there...

Perhaps I misnamed it. I don't wear it, even though I have training for conceal/carry. It is for BIG SHARKS or more likely the Admiral's peace of mind.

Seems like an act of piracy to me. Just because just one guy got caught does not mean he acted alone or was even there at all. Stolen credit cards are usually fenced. The Police will likely frown at investigating Piracy and if they cannot tie the credit card fraud to the murder they will stop there. Federal investigators by the same token will treat it as a local police issue and do nothing. Then everyone can claim there is no Piracy in US waters.

My impromptu guess is that he met his demise ashore walking on the beach at night, or something similar. It's hard to imagine a pirate rowing his victim to shore to bury when he could toss him into the water tied to an anchor, etc., if on the boat. Of course, a passport would be an unusual item to carry ashore for a walk, etc.

I agree that is not a likely scenario but the article just says the body was found on the beach and it could have drifted there. After a few days it could have been covered by sand but not deep enough that it was spotted.

1) Dinghy missing
2) Body found near NAS Pensacola (if on NAS not a civilian walking beach normally)
3) Passport and credit cards found/stolen ( possibly in water proof pouch floating is surf)
4) Perp caught 3 states away in LA trying to change to new ID to avoid Sex Offender ID in FL and a few bucks.


I am interested in Autopsy results and if the deceased Dinghy is found.

I am betting accident and not murder.

I just can't figure why someone would be carrying a passport in any kind of pouch such that it could end up in the hands of a pirate or mugger, etc., unless the victim was somehow held up. Do US citizens now carry passports as routine IDs as in driver's licenses or state issued ID cards? I think the victim's driver's license was also found so that does not seem likely.

in time you will see not being able to enter a state that does not have a chip in the dl and visa versa........and poor old charlie couldn't get of the MTA ...he was the man who never returned.....

Might be a passport card that some individuals routinely carry; not the typical passport book.
Will be interesting to see the results of the autopsy. Victim could have been dumped overboard after being overtaken and drifted onto NAS property in which case the guy in possession of the credit cards & ID would be prime suspect. The guy has a criminal history, is fraudulently using credit card, & is fraudulently trying to obtain a LA license using the victim's name.....very suspicious. My gut feeling is that he is the killer.
I have anchored at Fort Macrae many nights; beautiful spot. It's a sad day when you can't do a coastal cruise without fearing for your life. Condolences go out to victim's family.

Back in the 80's the Coast Guard was advising not to do the "big bend". They were saying that boats were captured for the drug trade and crew were often killed or set adrift. It was a vast area difficult to patrol and control. Desolate from Cedar Key to Appalachacola on the shore route. I guess much has not changed.

folks partially buried on beach in fla, found underwater wrapped in chains on west coat after showing boat to potential purchasers.....what other acts of malintent have been perpetrated upon boaters in usa in name of accidental death????
seems those pretending to be safe within specified national boundaries are not so safe, after all... acts such as these happen daily in lost angeles and detroit and other usa cities, yet we are confused and surprised when it happens on water.
seems to be as if folks go to water to get away from the daily bs, but it is everywhere.

It pays to be armed when cruising. I've not been messed with, but I carry enough firepower to make a pirate pay a steep price. Have been cruising in that very area this guy went missing and felt very safe, but always have an eye out for the unusual.
