I am planning a trip to North Carolina to check out properties around Pamlico Sound. If anyone has any info. about the area I would love to hear it. I am particularly interested in favorite areas, what the sound is mostly like (steady wind, gusty, choppy, etc.) Thanks for anything you can tell me!

NC Sailing

Hi Kathy, I am very familiar with all of NC coastal waters. We have the Pamlico Sound and the Albemarle Sound. The Pamlico Sound is about 70 Mi Long and 35 miles across and there are 2 big rivers, the Pamlico River and the Neuse River that flow into Pamlico Sound. As to weather conditions on the Sound they are very variable. All the way from flat calm to strong winds and steep waves. I have seen the extremes and been out in it sometimes. The Pamlico River and Neuse River are great to sail in also. Not too crowded yet. The Rivers are about 30 miles long and up to 5 miles wide in places. Oriental, NC on the Neuse River is one of our favorite places to sail to. Please e-mail me your address and I will send you a NC boating guide that has more detail. I will also send you info on a very neat community where I keep my boat, a new h340 on the Pamlico River. The property owners own the marina, each property owner owns his/her own slip and it is a very active boating community, mostly sailors. westabrooks@unctv.org

NC sailing

Cathy; Wayne Estabrooks does alot of sailing on a Hunter 340 from Washington, NC. He knows the coast very well and would suggest that you contact. Ask him for a picture of his boat in the trees. A storm came through and a loose boat severed or dragged his anchor lines. Crazy Dave Condon
