I am planning on sailing to the Bahamas in June 2010. My current insurer will not insure me there.

It is a great policy in every other regard, with a leading company and I don't want to cancel due to its low cost (more than 50% less than what others quoted).

Is there such as thing as a short term insurance policy for trips like this? I'll only be there for 3 weeks or so.

thanks!

A marine insurance company that will not provide coverage for the Bahamas in June? That insurance is no bargain if you cannot use your boat like it was intended to. Check with Boat US and see what they can do for you. No harm in asking them for a quote to transfer your insurance.

Poke around here

http://www.articlelibrarian.com/yacht-boat-insurance/yachtinsuranceproviders.php

there are companies out there that do short term coverage, but I wager it is going to be costly.
Thanks for the link Dave....

Costly is definitely the problem...my current insurance is about $1k/year with no deductible (due to no claims, credit and driving records).

Quotes with other carriers that would allow me to go have been from $3-5k/year with $5-15k deductible.

I have the ins. on my H420 thru State Farm for ~ $850/yr w/ a 1% deductible.
They will add a Bahama coverage rider at NO CHARGE (after Hurricane season) upon request, which covers all of the nearer Bahamian Islands, but not the Exumas.
