Boat Insurance

Both Boat U.S. and West Marine have insurance carriers that will insure a vessel. We chose to go with our house insurance company, Nationwide Insurance, as they gave us the best rate. Which ever route you go, if you plan to do any coastal sailing at all, make sure that you have towing and salvage coverage. I had a Catalina 25 sink in the Gulf of Mexice last April, the cost of refloating and towing the boat 10 miles to the nearest marina was $2775. I was covered but did not realize it at the time. Deep water towing vessels can charge up to $300 per hour from the time they start their engines. Good luck in your search. Ben Allen
