Same here.We have to have to show our insurance to the marina each year for our dockage and winter storage.
Really good to see people to the south are trying to control irresponsible boaters. As I've said so many times before, there is NO control up here in the Wild Wild West.Anyone ever been asked for proof of insurance before being servised at a marina ?
Our marina only requires that you check a box to promise you have insurance. They don't want to "see" the insurance policy as that requirement would scare off potential customers. Same as proof of competency, that would REALLY drive off customers. That should stand up well in courtWe have to have to show our insurance to the marina each year for our dockage and winter storage.
I think the motivation to require insurance is more to protect marinas from liability than it does to “control irresponsible boaters”. However, with no empirical evidence, it seems to me we have more than our share of “more money than brains” club members here than do you.Really good to see people to the south are trying to control irresponsible boaters. As I've said so many times before, there is NO control up here in the Wild Wild West.

I imagine things are "pretty boring" in your marina. Ours is a non stop gong show.Annual requirement at Everett Marina for using their slips.
- Proof of insurance
- State boat permit
- CG Documentation if boat is documented vessel.
I sometimes get involved in Reciprocal Privileges discussions, and the only YC that I know of in your area that wants this much is Maple Bay. I contacted them about this requirement, and while I agree that they can do what they wish, I disliked being lied to when I was told by an officer that "all" clubs in BC were doing this. That's crap; I know quite a few other sailors in the area and while some clubs want to see some proof of some sort of coverage, the usual policy amounts of $300K to $500k are always accepted. The yacht clubs in BC are requiring $2,000,000 proof of liability for reciprocal privileges. One commercial marina that I know of also does. The yacht clubs that have paid staff are seemingly checking. Otherwise nobody checks…
And yet, I don't think my insurance is that much different what the rest of us have and shown in post #8.…and here… $3,000,000 liability.
But Ralph, wait, look carefully, that poor horse might still be moving a little bit.........!Time to start a new thread
Was this in CI also have to have my marina named as Additional Insured on my policy. The get a copy of my renewal, and notification if I were to cancel my coverage.
We are only required to carry $300,000 liability coverage. Marina tried to mandate $2M, but they ran into a buzzsaw of comments from boaters, and then went back to $300k.
