I got ripped off, mine cost $18. :) -pic

Probably because I had to order it online. Sure beats $300. I've had it on for a year now and it still looks new.

Where did you bring your wires in ...back or bottom?

Back near the top, so that it was a straight shot to the instrument's connector. Filled the small void between the wire and the hole with silicone. Left a tiny opening to let air pass, as I also drilled a small hole on the bottom of the pod, to let any water out, should it enter. I removed the pod for winter and inspected the interior, no sign of water intrusion.

Edit: Found a pic of the rear

They come from Home Depot and they are PVC outdoor weatherproof boxes
I actually got weatherproof inlets for the back

Mine is a Cantex. You can pick your size here:

Then scan the internet for a retailer. I think mine is 5x5x2. But I can't remember without measuring. If you need the exact dimensions of the one I pictured, let me know and I'll check it when I'm on the boat this weekend.

Re: painting, it's PVC so should be paintable. It comes gray, which exactly matched my AP control head. The quality of the box is pretty good. Thick and strong PVC, rounded corners, gasket-sealed cover, and the finish is smooth and passable. It's not stunning, but it's good. It's quite amazing actually, considering the cost difference between it and the "marine" pods.
