When cruising the net last week I ran across an article on making your own instrument housings (used "storefront extrusion"). Didn't mark the site and now I can't find it. Has anyone else ran accross this article?

Cruising World

Gene, I don't know about the 'net, however the October issue of Cruising World has an article about "Creating Your Own Instrument Panel" out of aluminum storefront. Hope this helps. Regards, Steve S/V Options

Instrument Panel

I've been making all my instrument panels from black ABS that has a "crinkled" finish on one side. It is a very close match to the original Hunter panel. It is very easy to work with. I've used it to mount cockpit guages, main batt. switches, hour meter, Link 20, amp and volt meters, and will be using it to mount circuit breakers. Each panel has cost around $5 which includes material, labor, and a 1/4" radius on the corners. I have been using a local plastics distributor who can cut the material to size for me. I hope this helps.

BINGO

Thanks Steve, that was the article! It was driving me nuts. Keep looking on all my internet favorites and it wasn't there. Appreciate your reply. Bob, you suggestion sounds great for my interior work. It's great to share those secrets which give professional results for economical prices.

Gene; For added engine gauges, (oil pressure and system volts) at the helm, I used PVC pipe end caps and a piece of teak to house white-faced Teleflex gauges.
