I have two round instruments on the bulkhead - a knotmeter and depth sounder. The 5" diameter white plastic covers have deteriorated. I was thinking about putting snaps on the bulkead and fitting a small rectangular sunbrella cover with matching snaps, but I don't want to put more holes in the boat. I have tried various can and jar lids without too much success. Any suggestions? Thanks, Lenny in Austin

instrrument covers

Hey Lenny, I don't know about more holes and snaps, but I found some Tupperware plastic bowl covers at the grocery store that worked well and look good. They required a piece of 1/8 inch bungee cord glued in around the rim with marine adhesive, but they fit tight and look almost factory for a grand total of $6.00 investment.

Available for $$$

We replaced our covers yearly. These coffeecan type things are available at West Marine but cost! We made sunbrella covers with two snaps on the top and weights sewn in on the bottom. Had to attach (drill) two male snaps above the instrument to get them to snap on. They survived Hurrican Marty last year (boat barely did). We have a sunbrella cover for the hatchboards also and could have made it wider to cover the instruments.
