Installing wind instruments on my Catalina 27 Trying to get the wire from top of mast to the wheel. I have found the sleeve in the mast. I need to know if I have to drill a hole thru the deck to get the wire to the panel or can I go thru the mast base. There is a wire coming thru the mast base now but I have not taken it off to see if there is a conduit that runs to the bilge and then back to the panel. I have a diagram in my owners manuel that shows the conduit but having trouble finding it. If anyone has run any wire up the mast from the electrical panel please advice on your route. Thank you P.S Thanks Mr Fisher for your reply

here is how it is on my 30

My old 27 did not have a conduit in the mast. My 30 has internal halyards so the previous owner had to install a conduit to prevent any fouling types of problems. Drop the mast (very light and fairly easy on a 27, on a 30 it is about 40 feet high and weighs 150 or so lbs). Run the wire from the top (likely have to drill a hole in the mast head) into the conduit if you have one. If you have a conduit you likely have a string running through it that is tied off. That is how they got the other wires in. So run another string along with the wire to pull the original string back out. At the base of the mast you will want a connector or in my case inside the boat is a junction box for disconnecting the wire for future mast removal. The mast step has a large hole in the middle so that is no issue. The deck will have a hole in it. If you are lucky it may also have a short section of pvc pipe to keep water out... Anwyay drop a weighted string down the compression post and drill a hole in the back side of the post near the bottom to bring it out (on the 30 that is under a seat and hidden, on the 27 I am not sure where that is). At this point you can likely finish the project. Seal the wires at the base of the mast to prevent water leaking into the deck.
