Installing transducers

Spring still won't show its pretty face up here yet, but can't wait to get to the boat and install my new toys. Will be installing a new depth sounder in the V berth portion of the hull. Although the angle of the hull at this position is app. 10 degrees, I want to install a fairing block to make sure it is leveled. I have found a great deal of information all over the place on how to, but I failed to find the exact material from which to build a fairing block or where to get the material. Any ideas on what should be used? Ghislain Emilie-Jolie C30 1987 #4708

Match materials, avoid trapped air pockets

Cored hulls can create some problems for shoot through transducers. I'd guess that a wood block inside the hull would have the same problem, the sound waves behave differently in the different materials. Two part epoxy with filler might work if the shelf isn't too high (same thing you're using to stick it in place I presume), cloth or mat otherwise (or if you just like building things out of fiberglass). Most important, as with any in hull mounting, is to avoid getting air bubbles trapped in the resin.
