I want to install a spin halyard on my '87 34. Can any give me an idea as to how complicated this might be? Not a big bosun's chair fan.

Thanks
Gary

Spin Halyard for H-34

Here is what mine looks like, Gary.. Block attached to the masthead crane loop, internal lead for the halyard.. exits through a sheave in the mast base, through the deck organizer to a rope clutch.. Probably easier to pull the mast to do this work. If you don't want the halyard internally run, it can be led down from the top block to a turning block on the deck then back to the cockpit. Mast base picture shows this .. My two jib halyards exit above the mast base and go to a swiveling mast-mounted block then back to the deck organizers

What is a "spin halyard" and what is it used for?

Richard, sorry for the abbreviation, Spinnaker Halyard.. used to lift and fly the spinnaker.. In my masthead shot, it is the dark spotted line.

Re: Spin Halyard for H-34

Claude,
Great explanation and photos. I think i would prefer to have the new halyard internal to the mast.

I had riggers do mine when they were installing my roller furling. They went up in a climbing seat and dropped a very thin cord, about the size of this "o" (with 5-6 nuts tied on it) down the mast. By removing the fairlead at the bottom of the mast (a couple of bolts) they pulled it out and spliced in the halyard. Pulled the spin halyard up with the cord and reattached the fairlead. Maybe 15-30 mins of work. But they were already up the mast.
