First of all... once you convert to remote control you'll kick yourself for not doing it sooner. So much better. Tohatsu also makes electric start conversions.

I have a tohatsu electric start/remote control set up...... you can use any singel lever dual cable type remote control box as far as I know. They are all adjustable for range of movement, just like the tohatsu box. You could even use a two lever set up... However, the electric start is another matter. My control box has it all built in with the correctly colored wire (there are 6) with bullet connectors, which makes it easy to pull the motor off the boat for service.
My main point is that if you just want to control gear and throttle remotely to a pull start motor... there's no reason you can't use a generic control box. Electric is another animal, that requires a more sophisticated box or an understanding of the required electrical hardware.
For just remote control, what you'll need specifically for the tohatsu is the engine side cable connectors and cable brackets. The connectors screw right onto the end of the cables(I use teleflex) with a lot of room for adjustment. The gear shift connecter is pretty common, just a twist lock thing, but it must be mounted with a special bracket to work correctly. The throttle connection is a more complicated piece of hardware that is specific to tohatsu, but the bracket is much smaller than the Shift lever's. You should be able to order the necessary parts from any tohatsu/nissan parts dealer, or maybe even online.
Here's a link for the 9.9 remote control parts. See page 77 if the parts list.

If the $425 box includes all the connector parts except the cables, and someone to advise you.... it's a good deal.
