Holding Tanks
Todd-I don't know the exact layout of a 440, but it can't be drastically different from the other models. The first thing to do is to figure out where you want the tank(s) and measure how much room you actually have. From here you will need to run 1 1/2" dia. hose to a y valve (from the head) and also to a pump-out fitting in the deck. These runs should be as short and straight as possible and hopefully self draining back into the tank. You'll also need a 1/2" vent hose from the tank through the side of the hull, mounted as high as possible. You can get tanks from Ronco Plastics and tell them where you want the fittings for the various hoses to be placed. When I put a larger than original tank in my 390, I also had them put a 4" port in the top of the tank in case I ever needed to see what was going on in there. You'll also have to secure the tank with some hold-down straps. If you're going to be in waters where you need the holding tank a lot, you may want to put in one for each head (if you have more than one), otherwise I'd only put in one. I'm in the great lakes where we can't discharge overboard, so I eliminated one of the y valves when I put in new hoses to make the path just a little smoother.
