Iam about to install a holding tank in my boat (First 40.7) and could need some advise where to place it. Is it a bad idea to place it in the back of the boat? (the wc is in the forward cabin). I would prefer to place it somewhere else than under the bed in the forward cabin, since i need that space for storage and its also not the ideal shape for tank in that space. But maybe its the only space for a holding tank?

If you can find a location where the tank will sit lower than the toilet I would consider it first. Beneteau usually mounts holding tanks above the toilet thereby causing issues with backflow into the bowel. While the joker valve will hold it back for a while it will eventually leak causing the bowel to backfill with whatever was last pumped out. Replacing the joker valave takes care of it, but not forever. Other consideration should be given to the ability to vent the tank as well as provide a short clear run for the hose that leads from the toilet to the tank. The last thing you want is to have an issue with trying to move waste long distances or around tight bends.

Thank you! So then i should find a place for it close to the wc. Seems like i have to put it under the bed then.

Any other advice?

Have you checked with Beneteau to see where they placed it? Perhaps you can do the same thing?

This is the drawing from Beneteau's SysElios parts systems. Looks like the tank installs under the starboard salon seats.

On second look the tank under the stbd seat may be a fresh water tank. There appears to be a space next to the toilet against the hull for a tank. Check to see if there is a panel that can be removed that would reveal the tank or a space for it.
