Oday 25 Washington DC
I have a 1975 ODay 25 and am seeking advice on installing a Uniden depth meter that has about a 2" diameter face on it. The boat has a compass mounted in the bulkhead facing the cockpit next to the companionway. It is old and fogged up so dark it cannot be read. It is mounted in some sort of circular wood structure that protrudes from the cabin. Since I sail in the Potomac near DC I never need a compass, I can see all the marks and landmarks for navigating. I'm thinking of scraping the compass and mounting the depth meter in its place. Its much smaller so I'll have to use a large piece of wood as a mounting structure to house the depth meter. My question is, what is appropriate wood for this? Any other advice would be appreciated. The depth meter currently works as it was installed by the prior owner but is not mounted - it dangles on some wires in the cabin.

RE Swingout mount

Thanks for the tips Where do you get a swing out device? The owner prior to me was planning to do just that.
