Installing cleats amidships on H26

The slip I'm supposed to dock in this year is shorter than my boat. So, I think adding a cleat on each side of the boat amidships would better facilitate docking. I'd like to put them on the lip between the hull and deck (I'm sure there's some nautical term for this which escapes me at the moment). Any thoughts on how I should go about doing this? Just Did It

Two weekends ago, I installed two additional bow cleats and two cleats midship; I had asked the "how to" question here also. I installed the midship cleats on the "lip" also. It was very simple. I used an 8 inch cleat. I had a machine shop make backing plates (1 for each cleat) that was 1/4 inch stainless steel, 1.25 X 6.0 inches. The cost was $5 each. I drilled through the "lip", used lots of Marine 5200, and stainless hardware. The job to install the midship cleats took only about 20 minutes each, and I'm certainly no mechanic! By "lip" I'm guessing the backing plate you rigged is just like the backing plate for the shrouds? So you could put cleats just about anywhere? Does it seem solid? Tom H26/Ft Worth

Backing Plates

I modeled the backing plates for my additional cleats on the backing plates for the shrouds - check under the "lip" to see them. I figured that if they were strong enough to hold up the rig in some pretty strong wind, they would be strong enough for a cleat. I haven't actually used them yet, as my boat is in "line" to be bottom painted. Bruce S/V "Off Call" H23.5
