I would like to install a radio/CD player in my 1984 C-30. Any advice on installation of the player and speakers? Thanks.

CD/sterio

I have lived aboard x11yrs..love music. I use Alpine sterio equipment and Jenson Marine speakers..works quite well. Just be CAREFUL of speaker placement to avoid mag. interfer with compass & avoid wireless remotes that will interupt nav/autopilot sig.

Poly Planar Speakers

Bill, Use Poly Planar speakers in the cockpit. They are what Catalina uses and are low magnetic. They sound nice and are fully water proof. We just installed them on our new C36. They are 4 ohm. We used a JVC stereo at 45watts x 4 way and used small hign quality bookshelf speakers in the cabin. We mounted the ones in the cabin on the side shelves using 3M velcro on the bottom. Very secure. You'll have to do some kind of antenna for FM use. We used a combined UFO style on the mast for TV/FM. We also installed the cable TV/ Phone connector in the strern with an A/B switch for the TV. One of my friends has a C30 and uses a Laptop that is DVD compatible with a PCMCIA TV tuner card in it for a TV. Pretty slick and folds up when not in use. I think he uses amplified speakers. Good Luck, Crank up that Jimmy Buffet... Chris

CD on C-30

Bill; When you wire up the unit, be sure to seal each connection against moisture and use marine grade wire. Run the memory wire directly to the battery, through a fuse, and the power wire to a switched source. Although some people do and say they have no problems, don't use your VHF masthead antennae for FM reception. One day you'll try to transmit on VHF with the antennea selection switch set to FM. You may get lucky and escape with no damage, or you may send all that RF energy straight into your stereo. Connect a car antennae to it and lay it in the shelf of the aft berth. Good luck and enjoy! Larry
