I have a O'Day 272LE and would like to put it on a lift. But the manual says to disconnect the drive shaft every time it is taken out of the water. Is this true, is the the hull so flexable that I can't do this. Any help would be appreciated.

Hello,

My boats (Newport 28, O'day 35) have been getting hauled out in the fall and slashed in the spring for years. I have never disconnected the drive shaft and I have never had a problem. I would not run the transmission with the boat out of the water, but hauling and splashing won't hurt it.

Ditto what Barry and Maestro said. I owned a 272LE for five seasons, then moved up to a 322, and in neither case did I ever have to disconnect the shaft for haulout or launch. This is one time I wouldn't follow the manual's recommendation.
