I have 1994 hunter 29.5 ,and I have some questions on installing the raymarine wheel drive ev-100 sensor core , the manual says it can be installed any ware on the boat and does not have to be center line on the boat, can anyone tell me were they have theirs installed ,and the acu 100,also the manual says you do not need a rudder sensor , but it is best to have one ?

What Autopilot do you have? I have the Raymarine X-5. I installed my computer is installed under the drink holders behind the wheel.

I recently installed same setup on my H30. I have the sensor mounted on a bulkhead next to the companionway ladder. It does not need to be on the centerline of the boat, but must be close to level and the sensor aimed close to parallel to the boat centerline. The sensor mounting bracket alows for this latter adjustment.

I don't have the rudder sensor and the system works fine. Think this may be for bigger boats; not sure.

I just installed that very system in my H-34

I just installed that very system. I put both the motion sensor and the CPU on the bulkhead at centerline just under the companionway. Seems to work well and it's not far from the helm so shorter wires. I do not have a rudder sensor either. Here is what I've noticed: With no rudder sensor the system relies on the motion sensor for feedback so if the wind is light and maybe there is a cross current where feedback from the motion sensor is slow it gets a little confused and tends to overcorrect. This results in you sailing along in a zig-zag pattern as it corrects one way then the other, etc. When the wind is up the feedback is quick and she sails along nice and straight. I do not mind the zig-zag thing much. Maybe someday I'll get a rudder sensor but I'm fine without it so far.

Thanks for the info ,looks like under the companion way is the best choice ,as my thoughts were the same,

Problem installing the wheel drive, the motor on the wheel drive is to long, it won't allow me to put the wheel on the shaft, with out hitting the pedestal ,any one else have this problem on the H29.5, and how did you solve it,extend the wheel shaft or drill hole in pedestal, different wheel drive ?
