Thanks kloudie! This was helpful. I am looking at the Seabuilt cover now. It says that it will work with a poly tank. Now I am wondering if there are any baffles in the tank. These guys make a purpose built one.. Fabbing one is not hard either..
senang, thanks! This is a much better idea! Unfortunately there is no US Distributor! I am checking to see if they will ship to the US.If you have a poly tank there will be no baffles because of the fabrication process. As far as I know it is technically impossible. I have installed an inspection hatch in my tank, used a UK supplier, will look up supplier name.
Edit: The supplier is Tek-tanks.
OK I will tomorrow. Let me know whenRichard. Come over and look at it.
Hi Nodak7,Has anyone installed an inspection plate in a plastic fuel tank? I would like to inspect and clean the interior of our fuel tank but there is no inspection cover.
Nice write up Allan! Thank you! What did you do with the old fuel?Hi Nodak7,
Here's the link to how I did mine. Pretty easy job.

Baffles in. poly tank are NOT impossible. They are actually added in during the inflation process. Poly tanks with baffles are easy to spot. The tanks are not smooth. Each baffle point looks like a channel that usually runs up one side, across the top and down the other side. This channel is often the area that anchoring straps are placed..If you have a poly tank there will be no baffles because of the fabrication process. As far as I know it is technically impossible. Thanks for the professional advice! I thought the same thing when I saw the picture but your standing as a tank inspector will certainly hold a lot of weight! You see this type of stress and potential for cracks in every type of material. Look it up, that's also the reason the windows in aircraft are round(ed).I would NOT cut a square hole in any tank. The code requires that the corners be rounded to reduce stress, and yes, I've see square holes crack in the corners (steel, aluminum, and polyethylene). Square repair patches are also forbidden, because cracks can start in the corners. With a round hole, stay 2 inches away from any sides or corners.
