Any tips for retro-fitting an electric windlass on an Oceanis 390?
The original windlass was manual and is too slow and needs servicing.
There is a drop panel as you know about 30cm (1ft) below the anchor locker cover where manual windlass has been mounted..should I mount it there?

Do those who have used an electric windlass think I would be best to have the controls up-front or back in the cockpit...or should I set up dual controls?

Any ideas will be appreciated!

If you get one with a wireless remote you can have it hard wired at the bow but controlled from anywhere.

i have a beneteau 42s7 with an electric winch that is absolutely necessary for single handed sailing as i often do.. It has always worked reasonably well with controls (up and down) mounted on a 10' cord in the anchor locker. The best improvement i ever did was this year add a $50 wireless remote bought from e-bay. now it Works from any where on the boat. The corded controls are still in place if needed..

Thank you very much for that reply. I won't be solo sailing, but nonetheless what you suggest should be useful.
