Largest possible

Install the largest that you can fit. Mine is under the port settee. The previous owner installed it and on those hot summer days it doesn't quite make it. Fair winds and following seas. Charlie

Agree, install largest.

The largest is probably 16K BTU which should be more than adequate in California waters. But you will need that in Mexico. You can use the estimator at the Link below. I installed a 12K Mermaid on my H37C and the 16K is only slightly larger and would have fit in the same place. For me it was a question of $$$ considering the cool waters of the Great Lakes. It does very well but will probably be insufficient when I head South.

Installed one in mine

Installed a 12K in my 1983. Installed it under my map table and have two ducts in the main cabin and one in the v-berth.

Under Chart table

I installed ours under the chart table, ran the water intake from the engine water thru hull, by way of a three way valve,(no I cannot run the engine and the A/C at the same time, but never have had the need either.) I also keep the engine start key on a peg in the engine box, to be sure the valve is turned. also have the duct into the aft cabin, and two into the main cabin, waste water and the condensate is run overboard behind the unit, just above the waterline,The condensate is a problem with the H34 because of the inner pan, hard to run the hose into the bilge. I built a platform for the unit from pressure treated 2x2's and a piece of plywood treated with epoxy, on top of the plywood, under the unit, I added a piece of rubber mat (like a truck bed liner) to help deaden the sound. If I can help in some way E mail me off the list. Good luck, well worth the time and cash, best improvement you can do!

Condensation drain.

John mentioned a problem routing the hose ffrom the condensation pan. I installed Mermaid's "condensator" which solves this problem. It "T's" into the outlet hose and sucks out the water in the pan. Simple and very effective.
