I just got a Garmin GWS 10 electronic wind instrument. I'm looking for any advice or suggestions from people who might have installed similar equipment. I haven't been up the mast yet to get a good look at what's up there. There's only a windex now, so I don't know if I'll have to move it. I know I'll have to drill a hole about 1/2" wide to fit the NMEA connector through. I'm wonder if it would be better to go through the top, or through the side a few inches down.
The instrument itself has a 1 foot cable with the NMEA 2000 connector on it. Then there is a large spool of wire that as a fixed connector on one end and just wires on the other so you can cut it to length etc. Obviously it would require a smaller hole to run just the bare wire through, but that would leave 2 connectors and a foot of wire outside at the top of the mast. Just throwing out what I've thought of.
What's the best way to seal the hole where the wire goes through? Fortunately with the keel stepped mast, the bottom won't be a problem.
Thanks for any ideas.
Chris
