Installing a spinnaker pad eye

Just moved up to a '92 Hunter 28. Great boat, but soooo much different from my '60's vintage Rhodes Meridian. Immediate problem: no spinnaker or whisker pole fittings. The Z-Spar mast has a has a plastic strip in the leading edge of the mast. What's under it? Is there a special type of pad eye or track that fits under the strip, or do I just find a pad eye and screw it into the mast?

My suggestion...

...would be to go for a car on a track rather than fixed eyes. Different apparent wind angles require the pole to be at various heights. The movable car on a track solves that problem. Also suggest the foreguy be attached to the base of the mast that way when the pole is eased forward or trimmed back the foreguy can remain as is.....just one less thing to adjust.

Robert, check with your spar maker...

Ours was Charleston Spar. They make a car that slides into the track molded into the leading edge of your mast. It does require that you unstep the mast to slide it into the track. Terry
