I'm about to install a new MSD system in my boat prior to sailing into American waters. I'm finding more opinion than facts in a lot of forums - this one looks like something different. Can you tell me ... 1. Does a NDZ in US waters refer to gray and black water, or just black water? 2. Is there a guideline for tank capacity? Or to put it another way, jusing a standard Jabsco toilet, how many gallons per person per day of black water will I generate? 3. My holding tank material options are coming down to polyethylene (Ronco or something similar) or custom made fiberglass. I've seen elsewhere in your forum that you prefer polyethylene - is fiberglass not recommended, or just not the best thing. (I'm told that stainless steel and aluminum are definately not recommended ... do you agree?) Thanks in advance for your help.

Simple answers...
In the US, NDZ refers ONLY to black water. Guideline for tank capacity (variable depending upon use of wet mode and dry mode when flushinng): The averge adult uses the toilet 5x/day...avg volume/flush including flush water: .6 gal (2 litres). So each adult aboard will put an avg of 3 gal/day (10 litrewa) into a tank. Children use the toilet more frequently. Of course, the more toilet use ashore, the less than goes into the tank. Learning to ue the "dry" mode for more than just pumping the last of the water out of the bowl can double or triple the number of flushes a tank can hold... So can using the lee rail whenever possible without either offending onlookers, getting yourself arrested for indecent exposure, or both. Fiberglass is an acceptable waste tank material, it's just at the bottom of the list. No metal of ANY kind should ever be used to hold black water. I suggest you check out the link below before embarking on this project.
