Is there anyone out there that has installed a Raritan Lectra/san in their 1981 Hunter 37C Cherubini designed vessel? I have been reading the threads about holding tanks failures, (mine hasn't but I fear it is inevitable,) taking them out, hanging flexible tanks, plastic tanks, cutting v-berts, etc. The Head Mistress said why not consider using the Lectra/san. The new holding tank cost of $250+ dollars would help offset the total cost. (I found one (Lectra/san) on line for under $800.) My only concern is that the top of the unit, (Lectra/san) has to be below the discharge line of the head itself. I am not at my boat at the moment. I am off the coast of Texas drilling gas and oil wells so I can't see it. If anyone out there has done this replacment/installation I sure would like to hear from them. Things like problems encountered, what they might do differently, where did they put the Lectra/san etc. Is it working as expected? Frank Bean SV Blue Bird Mobile, Alabama

Hadoulias installed a LectraSan. He had some problems as I recall. I saw the installation and it might be somewhere in the Photo Forum. I think he installed it under the shower seat where the original holding tank lived. It will also fit in the starboard v-berth locker. The flush outlet should go up and over a vented-loop on your boat. So by default the LectraSan top is lower than the outlet. Interesting that their instructions mention the need for a vented-loop but illustrate it withOUT one. I think you can still reach Tom through the Owner's Directory. He did sell the boat however. In Lake Erie and many other places you would still need a holding tank. I suppose that might change someday.

Electra/san
Frank We had one installed on our 81 H36 which should have about the same layout as the C37, before we got our 420. We had it installed for about 5 years before we sold it. It was installed under the sink which would make the top above the dischage line of the head. We never had any problem with it functioning correctly

Fresh water sailing requires a holding tank.
The powers-that-be are really cracking down on sealed systems. Last year we had to have an inspection that showed the y-valve disabled. I just got a notice that we have to go through it again this year. Aside from the short sailing season up here in the Great Lakes, there are some advantages to fresh water sailing, especially lack of corrosion. Craig
