I am thinking of installing a fuel shut off valve between my diesel tank and my Racor Filter. The reason being when changing filters, I do not want to fiddle around with the shut off valve on the fuel tank. If I install it just in front of the Racor Filter, it seems like a easy way to cut off fuel when changing filters...Any thoughts..?

A fuel shut off valve should already be there, on your tank. You want a real fuel shut off that is fire rated not a plastic valve.

cut the fuel hose to the racor filter and insert the valve between the cut hose..

You may simply have to buy and screw in hose barb fittings. There are also ball valves available if you do that search phrase.

Sorry I missed this. Most valves are female NPT and you then buy the male hose adapters to fit the valve and your diameter hose. I don't recall seeing any barb/barb fuel valves.
If this is a Catalina 310 it already has a fuel shut off on the tank..

I did this a couple of years ago. Makes changing filters much easier. I used to use channel locks on the input line. This is much better. The fitting screws into the filter and had a barb end for the inlet hose. Brass 1/4 turn shut off. As I recall it was about $20 and I believe I got it at West Marine.
BobJames....i like your idea to put the valve right next the the racor unit, it's a cleaner simpler approach and you only need the valve and one barb.Thanks for the tip
