Hi: we are installing a new fuel pump for the Universal 25XP and our mechanic needs to know what fittings are required. Does anyone have this info. We have obtained the pump #Z2936.
Many Thanks,
Faith

Faith,

Listen to Bob. If it's an exact changeout model pump, you already have the fittings. Two wires & two connections later, it's installed. Tell the mechanic this.

An added thought for you to think about. I carry a spare start solenoid incase one blows out. Just a couple wires to hookup & mounting screws. I also keep a spare fuel pump onboard. An electrical part can burn out at any time. At least with these two spares, you have a better shot of getting back without having to call for a tow.

Remember the Boy Scout motto, "Always be prepared".

I agree with the guys, and it should be obvious to any trained mecahnic how to replace a fuel pump. If your mecahnic does not know this, then maybe he's not the "mechanic" that you need to let work on your engine. Because if he does not know how to replace it, then he probably does not know how to bleed the air out of the fuel lines to get the engine working properly again.

True but he might be asking for the proper barb size. I replaced my fuel pump along with new fuel line. Off the top of my head I think it was 5/16 ID hose. I'm not sure any mechanic would have this info readily available especially if the PO changed out the fuel line to a different size. You never know what a PO can do. :doh:I lost my fuel pump at anchor 30 miles from home on a weekend. I was lucky enough to find a universal electric fuel pump at a NAPA. It worked and got me home. I bought another pump and keep the NAPA as a spare. CR is right about spares on the boat. It's also quite easy to replace the pump yourself. 2 bolts, 2 wires and 2 hoses.

Geeze:confused: These guys bill at > $95/hr here in So. Cal. If the guy can't figure the fittings by the manuals they have, I'd scoot right away to another dude. If you tell him the wrong one and it doesn't fit--who get's to pay for another service call?
