I've got a '74 Cat 27. I modified the previously unusable forepeak area to be a stowage area for the anchor rode, thru a deckpipe to the foredeck. I'm concerned about water from the wet rode draining down into the bilge area in front of the mast. On my boat, the front of the bilge where the mast is has been sealed off from the bilge area behind, so there is no access to see the bottom of the mast compression post. I'm thinking about using a hole saw to drill a hole for mounting a small (4") access port in the hull liner in the head area in front of the mast so that I can inspect the area of the compression post for water. But in that area, the liner is very close to the hull itself. Obviously I don't want to bore a hole thru the hull! Anybody done such a thing for access to the area in front of the mast? Any advice or suggestions? Thanks!
