Ditto so here too....
I put a hatch inbetween the aft bunk on my 34 and the fuel/battery compartment. Used a short sabersaw blade to cut it (make sure you have someone watch as you do it so as not to cut into the fuel tank.) I then used 1x2 around the outside of the cutout to prevent the new "hatch" door from being pushed inward. Two hindges on the bottom and a twist lock on top and I was done. Gave me access to the exhaust and scupper hoses, better access to the batteries (have to move all the lines I have hanging from a board mounted in the cockpit locker opening), fuel/air separator in the vent line, and the refrig I mounted under the aft lazerette locker. It also allowed a second escape path for someone in the aft cabin if ever needed. I can still fit through the opening but it has gotten harder as I age. I'll stick to just checking batteries and fuel level for now.
