Inspecting mechanical fittings

Just curious, how often do you disassemble and inspect mechanical fittings? I rigged with Hayn lowers just so I could purposely check and make sure nothing is funky. They are reportedly self draining, though I see no drains and they collect water. . .but I guess it evaporates eventually.

So how often is too often? Or not often enough?

So Cool, what do you think? Any guidance in the Hayn doc? It would seem that disassembly/reassembly would weaken the wire. My rigging was at least fifteen years old when I replaced it. And nine years since I inspected the tops. If the Hayn's are that susceptible to corrosion I'd go back to swaged.

Not sure how often a pilot checks as far as disassembly is concerned. . .visually I check over mine every time I'm out there. . .just a part of closing up the boat when I'm done working on it. . .takes maybe 5 minutes.

The little bit of Hayn documentation I have just mentions they can be disassembled and reused indefinitely as long as the cone isn't distorted. I don't know how susceptible to corrosion they are. SS only rusts in low/no oxygen right? Since they are getting a constant flush of water and air, I guess it should be fine. . .I think we would have heard of a problem by now

I was just curious though. If nothing else, I guess I'll try every other year until the rigging starts to get some age on it? Then once a year after that? Or do people even inspect there fittings like this?
