I'm in the process of redoing the interior finish of my 1981 Hunter 27. The past owner had used Teak Oil. The problems are stains in a lot of areas and some places that are black that are be a combination of mold and good old fashioned dirt. I am first cleaning with a solution of bleach and water using a Scotch-Brite pad and then doing a light sanding. This seams to do a good job cleaning things up. Now I need a light stain to kind of blend the darker areas with the lighter ones. After this I intend to varnish the wood. Does anyone have a sugestion for a stain? Also has anyone used Cetol for exterior Teak? Does anyone have a sugestion for an exterior Teak finish? There is so little exterior Teak on the Hunter that I don't mind recoating say once a year.

Cetol inside

I used Cetol on my deck in the Main salon 3 years ago. It still looks very good, however it becomes EXTREMELY slippery with the slightest water. If you loose a little oil and water from the bilge, forget it! So: Cetol will hold up very well, but keep it off the surfaces you want traction on. The rest of my interior I have kept up with a Bees wax/Lmon oil product called "Cabin Wood Care"

Stain?

Richard. Hunter uses Daly's SeaFin as a light varnish for their interior teak (Daly's ProFin for the decks). I have used it on NEW teak and the colors match perfectly on my '88 L37. It can be purchased at West Marine or direct from Hunter. Or direct from Daly's Home Center in Bellevue and Seattle, WA.

Oxalic Acid

Richard: Try some Oxalic Acid. You can purchase it in many wood deck cleaning products. I would use it sparingly. You also may find that it will lighted the floor more than you want. Use it in an inconspicous place to test. You can also purchase it in a powder form. Don't use cetol on the interior. There are no redeeming values to cetol on the interior. Use something like the minwax finish for the floors, spar varnish, Dalys etc. All are good choices.
